Schul-iPad von Sohn oder Tochter kaputt: Wer zahlt die Reparatur?

Your son or daughter's school iPad is broken – and immediately the question arises: Who pays for this now? The short answer: That depends on who owns the iPad and what has been agreed upon with the school. Parents often pay themselves, but sometimes insurance steps in. You can see the price for the repair of your model immediately in our repair configurator.

Who owns the school iPad?

This is the most important question, as almost everything depends on it. In practice, there are two cases:

  • The iPad belongs to the school or the school board. It was only provided to your child for use. What happens in the event of damage is governed by the user agreement that you signed.
  • The iPad belongs to you. It was purchased privately and is only managed by the school. In that case, as the owner, you are responsible for the repair.

Whether you are allowed to have the iPad repaired privately is also stated in the user agreement. When in doubt, check with the school before placing an order.

Does insurance pay?

That is decided solely by the respective insurance company. Before you order anything, a quick call to them is worth it. These questions will help you:

  • Is the damage covered at all? And does this also apply to a device that belongs to the school?
  • What proof do you need? Is the invoice after the repair sufficient, or is a written cost estimate required beforehand?
  • Is there a deductible? Then you will know in advance what you will have to pay at the end.

Invoice or cost estimate?

Often the invoice is sufficient: If the insurance has already approved the repair, you will automatically receive an invoice after the repair to submit.

If the insurance requires a written cost estimate beforehand, you can obtain one from us for a fee, paid in advance. This amount will be credited against the total cost after the repair.

You can see the price yourself at any time free of charge in our configurator.

Protecting for the future: Device insurance with WERTGARANTIE

A school iPad is carried in a backpack every day, dropped, or sits next to a water bottle. Anyone who doesn't want to think about who pays for every new instance of damage can protect the device.

STARPHONE is a partner of WERTGARANTIE. Depending on the chosen contract, for example, display or liquid damage can be insured. Whether specific damage is covered, what costs are covered, and whether a deductible applies depends on your contract terms and the insurer's assessment.

  • Important: Insurance applies to damage that occurs after the policy is taken out. An already broken iPad cannot be insured retroactively – repair it first, then protect it.
  • School iPad or private device? Whether your iPad can be insured depends on who owns it. We are happy to clarify this with you in a conversation.

You can find all details on our page for device insurance with WERTGARANTIE.
